Ballot Proposals, my votes
Floridians are an interesting crowd! MSNBC just showed a graphic for a ballot proposal there. The caption on it read "Teen Pregnancy" -- 65% were voting yes.
Of course, the proposal is to require parental notification for teen abortions, but that's beside the point, isn't it?
There are a pathetic 11 states voting on constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriage. I read them earlier today; some have far nastier wording than the Michigan one does. I know I just talked about not trusting early precinct results, but all of them with any results thus far, the amendments are passing, and it isn't close. One state's early results show 89% yes. That's really depressing.
I mentioned earlier that I was looking to split my ticket more than expected. I eventually found enough information that I didn't abstain in any race. I thought about not voting the uncontested races, but I gave in and voted for all of them. The ballot just looked sort of incomplete, otherwise. Also, a problem with the ballot design was that most of these uncontested races were various local and county elections; mixed in with them was the definitely contested (though I've no idea if it's close) mayoral race. One man in my lab said that he only realized later that he'd missed that on his ballot, despite having planned to vote for the challenger; he didn't vote the uncontested ones, so he missed the other.
Not counting uncontested races or the vice-president, I voted for eight Democrats, four Republican, one Libertarian, and one Natural Law candidate. For justices, I voted for one sponsored by each major party. I also voted four 'yes'es and one 'no'. It would have been closer, but I wound up going Democrat on both the tough-to-decide county races I mentioned last night.
